CHEERS to this ‘70s architectural masterpiece, which counts a cool retro bar among its eye-catching features.

Kay & Burton, Hawthorn, selling agent Judy Balloch said 45 Cascade St, Balwyn North, was built in 1972 by “architectural genius” Theodore Berman, and was renovated about 10 years ago by its current owners, who kept its design origins intact.

“The bar is still very retro,” she said. “It was built as an entertainer’s house.”

Ms Balloch said she believed the four-bedroom home’s original owners were importers.

It’s accordingly filled with custom-made fittings sourced worldwide, including a Chinese screen in the main bedroom.

Glass walls, 10m-high ceilings and a bold Miele and stone kitchen are also among the home’s design highlights, while a floodlit tennis court and pool add a resort-style feel to the north-facing backyard.

The property is set to be sold via a private auction on Thursday, June 1.

It has a guide price of $5.5-$6 million.
