Henry Thomas – the actor who played Elliot in the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic E.T. The Extra Terrestrial – was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Monday. According to multiple reports, police arrested the 48-year-old in Tualatin, Oregon after they found him passed out in his car while it sat in the middle of a residential intersection.

People Magazine is reporting that another driver called 911 to report that someone had stopped their car in the middle of the road. Public Information Officer Jennifer Massey says that when police arrived they arrested him, took him to the Washington County Jail, and booked the former child star on the misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Tualatin Police apparently had to wake him up because Thomas was in such a deep sleep, however there was no sign of alcohol in the vehicle and it didn’t smell like booze. But, police say Thomas showed other signs of being intoxicated.

After giving him time to sober up, officers released Thomas on his own recognizance on Tuesday morning.

Thomas is best known for playing Drew Barrymore’s big brother in the 1982 film, and fans will remember that Elliot is the one who became best friends with the alien and kept him hidden in his house while E.T. tries to get back home.

After that memorable role, Thomas continued acting in numerous movies and TV shows over the years – including Legends of the Fall and Gangs of New York – with his most recent turn coming as young Hugh Crain in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House.

As the reboots and remakes of popular 1980s and 1990s TV shows and movies continue to be the popular trend in Hollywood, Barrymore recently talked about a possible sequel to E.T. during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Barrymore said that it isn’t going to happen because Spielberg isn’t interested in sequels.

“In the early ’80s there was not always a lot of talk of sequels,” Barrymore said. “Because Steven Spielberg made Jaws and E.T. there was a lot of talk within his camp about sequels. But he never wanted to make them.”
